Annatto Seed

Annatto coloring is obtained from the reddish pericarp surrounding the seed from Bixa orellana. It has been used as coloring in the dairy and beverage industry. Annatto can also be used to color a number of non-dairy foods such as rice, custard powder, baked goods, seasonings, processed potatoes, snack foods, breakfast cereals and smoked fish. When Annato is originally extracted is also known as known as Bixin. This extract is the oil soluble presentation of Annatto, the main ingredient present in the seeds of this plant. The oil can be converted into Norbixin, a very water soluble derivative after the saponification process. We provide the following presentations: whole, powder, Bixin, and Norbixin.
